Brooksie M.s Story

Savior3 (Custom)What was your life like before you met Christ? * I’ve heard and read testimonies from people who had such dramatic changes in their lives when they were saved. I didn’t have that kind of experience to tell and I didn’t think anyone would want to hear my story.
During a lay-lead revival at First Baptist, many came to give testimony of their salvation. It was a very moving event. During the day, cottage prayer meetings had been planned and the one I attended was led by the wife of one of the team members. She started by telling her testimony, then we prayed. After this, I told her that I was so glad to hear her’s because it was so much like mine; not dramatic. I didn’t know I had a story. She told me that everyone who has been saved has a story to tell and it might help someone tell theirs. So, this is mine: I was born to loving Christian parents, the youngest of 8 children. My parents loved us and taught us about Jesus by their example. Papa died when I was 8 years old. He had been a deacon and song leader. Mama taught teenage girls in Sunday School. Papa would invite the visiting preacher or perhaps a missionary to Sunday dinner many times. We were always in Sunday School and church.

How did you come to Christ? * I was saved when I was 9 years old, sitting with 2 of my friends and Mama close by. I really didn’t hear much the preacher said that Sunday, but when he gave the invitation asking if anyone wanted to come to Jesus and be saved, I felt the Lord Jesus knocking on my heart really hard. I looked at my Mama. She nodded her head of approval and I stepped out in the aisle with tears streaming down my face and told the preacher I wanted to be saved and follow Jesus. Jesus saved me that day. I wish I could say everything was “perfect” from then on, but it wasn’t. As I got older and doing things I shouldn’t do as a Christian teenager, I would ask Jesus to forgive me and then I would doubt as to whether I had really been saved. I was afraid if I died I’d go to hell. I was miserable! I told my pastor and he met with me after school. He questioned me about my salvation experience. As I told him, he took his Bible and began to read scripture to me, having me read these verses of assurance that Jesus had saved me. “He gives eternal life and no one can snatch us out of His hands.” John 10:29 “Nothing can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus.” Romans 8:35-39 That was all the assurance I needed.

What is your life like now in Christ? *   As for my life since coming to know Christ, I’ve found He is faithful in any and everything that has come in my life and I love Him and desire to be more like Him. 2 Cor. 3:18.

My husband Paul and I, with the help of the Lord Jesus, raised four wonderful children. What a responsibility and what a joy it was to see them all give their hearts to Jesus and now see them actively serving Him in different areas. They’ve also given me 11 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren to love and share my story with. I guess I can truly say, “I’ve been blessed beyond measure.” To top it all, “I know Whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep that which I have committed to Him until that Day.” 2 Timothy 1:12b

Any additional comments? Satan still tries to rob us of the joy of our salvation, but “Greater is He that is in us, than he that is in the world.” I John 4:4 As Jesus went to the cross, He paid my sin debt with His blood, died and rose again. To this we can say, “Hallelujah! We have victory in Jesus!”
