Today’s Sermon:

The Songs of Christmas

Gloria: The Angels’ Song

Luke 2:8-20

by Dr. Bill Henard

First Thoughts: The amazing story of Christmas is the fact that God became a man. The declaration that God is with Us became the foundation for the constant celebration of the birth of this child born to peasant parents.  Notice what we learn from Gloria: the Angels’ Song.

  • God Reveals Himself to the Most Unlikely of Us.
    • Verse 8 – In the same region, shepherds were staying out in the fields
  • The Birth of Jesus Opens the Way for All of Us to Be Saved.
    • Verse 10 – I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all the people

  • The Proper Response from Us to Christ’s Work is Worship.
    • Verse 13 – Suddenly there was a multitude of the heavenly host with the angel, praising God

    • Salvation – being right with God and having eternal life.
    • Joy – an inner contentment that is not dependent on our circumstances.
    • Peace – well-being, security, soundness, and completeness.

  • The Proof Within Us that We Have Met Christ is that We Tell Others.
    • Verse 17 – After seeing them, they reported the message they were told about this child

Takeaway: The truth is, even if Christ were born in Bethlehem a thousand times but not within you, you would be eternally lost.  The Christ who was born into the world must be born in your heart.  Therefore, that baby, God’s Son, demands our complete allegiance.
