New Sunday Morning Bible Study beginning January 26

On January 26 we will begin a 31 week series called The Story at 9:30 each Sunday. The Story is a book of selections from the Bible, arranged chronologically, that reads like a novel.

Rather than seeing the Bible as a collection of unrelated stories we will put them all into context and perspective as they relate to each other and the overall message of God’s word to us.

The Story increases Biblical literacy, helping readers understand God’s story from Genesis to Revelation and how their own stories intersect with God’s.

Today’s Sermon:

Identity: Chosen by the Father

Ephesians 1:3-6

by:  Dr. Bill Henard

First Thoughts:

  • In Christ, you must understand that He is enough. And the reason that He is enough is because a part of your identity is that you have been chosen by the Father. When you understand your identity in Christ, it is then that you discover what God has for you. Here’s what we learn.

Because you have been chosen by the Father:
You are Blessed.

  • Verse 3 who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavens.

You are Clean.

  • Verse 4 For He chose us in Him, before the foundation of the world, to be holy and blameless in His sight.

You are Adopted.

  • Verse 5 He predestined us to be adopted through Jesus Christ for Himself,
You are Accepted.

  • Verse 6 to the praise of His glorious grace that He favored us with in the Beloved.

  • Where is it in your life that Christ needs to be enough? You are in Him, and because of that one fact, your identity if found in the fact that the Father has chosen you. And His purpose is that you would live now as His child, not as anything that you were before you met Him.
