Update on Matthew and Heather Bond!

Ekklesia Summer Edition 2015
Hello Everyone,

It is dry and hot here on the island!  Okay, it is not Texas hot or Louisiana sweltering but this is the driest and warmest summer so far.  We are off and running at full tilt with outreach events, summer camps, and one-on-one conversations this summer.  We have had wonderful teams again this year with three more coming this summer for our camps.  Please pray for the gospel to continue to go forth as we meet people.

Here are some details from the outreach efforts of Ekklesia this summer:

  • Our Canada Day block party was the largest to date with over 300 hot dogs served.  Heather and I had some fantastic gospel conversations with people during the party.  We also had an amazing presence in the Sidney’s Canada Day parade.  Check out the picture below.  The South Park team trained some of our leaders in Kid’s Beach Club material for us to use this summer. Thank you to the South Park Baptist Church for all your wonderful help, and to Jack Terrell for allowing us to use the material.
  • We wrapped up our Soccer and Creative Art Camp last week with teams from Yakima, Washington (West Side Church) and Hampton Roads, Virginia (Liberty Baptist Church).
    • Three girls from our camps began talking with our volunteers and their parents about becoming Christians and attending church.  This is fantastic as they heard the gospel everyday after the camps. I have followed up with all three families and am praying for the opportunity to meet with each in their home.
    • We have also been notified by one of the moms that here son has accepted Christ.  Here is a text we received from her on Sunday:
      • “Just wanted to share Caleb came back home Friday and said “mommy coach Joseph talked about Jesus coming into our hearts” (he’s always asked me about this and I’ve explained it the best I could…but something clicked that day and he asked if Jesus is still in his heart. To which I replied that in order for Jesus to live in us we have to invite him into our heart to stay. Then he asked how to do this so I said well you pray about it. So he said “mommy can we pray right now”… Brought me to tears! You guys are awesome and such a Gift from God! xoxo please share!!”
    • One of the families from the camp joined us for church Sunday.
  • We are preparing for two mission teams to join us this weekend (FBC Athens, TN and Woodlawn Baptist, Baton Rouge, LA) to help lead three camps: basketball, baseball, and dance.  We will also be having our mini-VBS/Kid’s Beach Club and doing some community outreach.
  • Please pray for us as Haley has been living with us for over a month.  We desire wisdom, courage, and discernment in ministering to her, her family, and her friends.
  • I am so excited by the response that Ekklesia has shown toward the summer camps. The first year of camps we had 2-3 people help us from the church. Last year we had 4-5 that helped us with the the camps, but this past week we had 13 different people from church helps us.
  • We will be celebrating three years on the Island at the end of August.  Please continue to pray for us as we continue through the Permanent Residence process.

We are gearing up for two more weeks of camps! Thank you for continuing to pray for us and the Gospel going out on V.I.

For His Glory,

Matthew and Heather

Pastors’ Blog – 7/22/2015 – Mission Teams Send Off

Pastors' Blog Logo
Later this week two teams from our membership will leave the comforts of home in obedience for the cause of “making disciples of all nations.”

One team is heading back to Honduras to work in an area of great poverty.  The work is done on a “ranch” established as a place to offer relief from the abject poverty and the sharing of the “Good News,” to those in the surrounding region.  Our folks will be doing manual labor, teaching the Bible, working with children in Bible classes and fun events especially for the little ones.  To be sure the conditions are difficult compared to our normal life situations here in Tennessee.  All those going have paid a great deal to go and be both their own and our voice to the Hondurans, and those working to bring them the Gospel and humanitarian relief.  They need our prayers to be the best and clearest voice of God possible to this region.  Remember them for safety, but even more for effectiveness in evangelism.

We have another team going to Victoria Island, Canada to work directly with the Bond family, who are Southern Baptist church planters there.  Matthew was on staff here as our youth minister before leaving us for seminary.  Upon his graduation he and Heather felt led to be planters and God has greatly blessed them in that work.  Our team will assist with activities like a kid’s camp, and their part in Sunday’s worship, and in general sharing the load of planting a church with the Bond family.  They need our prayers for opportunities to share their faith and that they would be a refreshing help with the day to day struggles of church planting.

We can’t all go.  All of these folks going have made a substantial personal investment both financially and in terms of time in preparation and the time spent away.  We can all support them with our prayers and encouragement expressed by gratitude for the sacrifice they are willing to make to be obedient to the call for help.
