Nathan G’s Story

Ash Wednesday HD_variant3 (Custom)What was your life like before you met Christ? * I grew up in a Christian home in the big city of Athens, TN. Jesus was introduced to me at a young age, and having grown up in church it comes as no surprise that I accepted Him as my Lord and savior at the early age of eight. I can’t say that my life was a complete wreck before I came to know Him; I mean I wasn’t in any gangs or out getting wasted every weekend as an elementary school kid, but I most certainly still had sin in my life. I was selfish and thought the world revolved around me, but Christ gave me a new perspective.

How did you come to Christ? * Like I said I began a relationship with Jesus at the early age of eight thanks to my sister and VBS, however, it wasn’t until the Disciple Now in 2008 that I really began to mature in my faith. We were asked to dig into God’s word for at least 15 minutes a day, so I took on that challenge and that is when I started to genuinely grow in my relationship with Him. I experienced His sovereignty and faithfulness in huge ways during high school. By the guidance of the Holy Spirit I gave up the sport I loved, which was soccer, my freshman year in order to grow stronger in my faith. I thought I’d never play a sport again, but I didn’t care because I loved God more. A few months later He opened the door for me to play rugby and football. Imagine a yardstick playing against oak trees and you get a pretty good idea of what I looked like compared to my opponents, but God still blessed me tremendously in those sports. I was even recruited by Kutztown University which was ranked top 10 in the USA Rugby Collegiate Premier Division. I saw the incredible hand of God in my life, and all I did was trust and obey Him.

What is your life like now in Christ? *    Life definitely isn’t perfect and neither am I, but because of my faith in Jesus I am able to wake up every morning with a smile on my face knowing that my life is in the hands of a loving Heavenly Father who is bigger than all the challenges I face. I know the hope He gives is a hope that will never disappoint.
